Durham Regional Police Service

DRPSPC Heather Wilson works closely with the staff and students at Glen Street to discuss safety issues, build positive relationships, and solve problems as they arise.  Below are just some of the many programs that PC Wilson will help facilitate with our students.
  • Racing Against Drugs - In partnership with many agencies and community services, the Durham Regional Police Service participates in an educational event that teaches Grade 5 students about drugs and alcohol. Each year, students from schools across the region participate in the drug awareness program and learn prevention and alternatives to drug use.

  • Risk Watch - In partnership with the Durham Health Department and local fire departments, this program teaches personal safety and fire prevention to children between junior kindergarten and Grade 8.

  • Safety Patroller Program - Sponsored by the Canadian Automobile Association, students between 9 - 14 years of age develop knowledge and skills in both pedestrian and vehicle traffic while assisting crossing guards. There are also bus patrollers and schoolyard patrollers.

  • VIP Program (Values, Influences, Peers) - In partnership with the Durham District School Board and the Durham Regional Police Service, the VIP Program is designed for Grade six students, assisting them in making informed choices related to values and the law. The program has been in existence for over 10 years and is lead by our Community Services and Crime Prevention Unit.
