Mrs. Page's Grade 3 Class

Griffon         Mrs. Page's Grade 3 Class

Hello Parents / Guardians,

Spring is almost here!  This is an exciting time for the students because of the change in the weather.  Please remind your child to always dress accordng to the  weather.

Once again I am encouraging students to participate in the Home Reading Program.  Each student has received his/her own resealable plastic bag to carry books to and from school.  In that bag you will find a tracking sheet to record the names of the books read, the date, your signature to show that the book (s) were in fact read and a place for comments regarding the reading.  Research shows that students better comprehend what they read as their fluency (speed) increases.  Rereading books until fluency is achieved is the key.    Please return home reading books to get different ones only when your child has achieved significant fluency resulting in a good understanding of what they have just read.

In Science we have just started a unit on Soil In The Environment.  By the end of this unit, your child should be able to:

- identify similarities and differences between various soils and the effects of moving water on soils.

-  investigate the various components of soil

-  recognize the dependence of living things on soil

We will accomplished these expectations from inclass studies as well as participating in the Scientists in School Program.

We have booked for the Scientist to come to our classroom on March 19 in the afternoon.  I will need 3 parent volunteers to assist in the running of the centres.  It would be very helpful to have these volunteers come in 15 minutes before class starts in order to prepare.  If you can assist us on that afternoon, please phone the school and speak to me . For the last two weeks our class has been working on three Reader's Theatre Plays that we hope to present to the other classrooms.  The purpose of Readers Theatre is to help with oral communication,(speaking skills,& listening to understand), reading fluency and to apply the creative process to dramatic play.  Please check your child's agenda for a time you can come in to enjoy our plays.

Thanks to all the parents for your support this year.  If your have any questions about what is happening in our classroom please get in touch with me.
